I'd heard good things about the Mundial 5100 series, so when I saw this 6" chef's knife for less than $20, I grabbed one. The 5100 series is made in the style of traditional German knives -- for example, the Wusthof Classic series. In comparison to the Wusthofs I own, this Mundial knife is distinctly beefier, but not as perfect in finishing. The blade of the Mundial is thicker than the blade of my Wusthof Classic 7" Chef's Knife; the Mundial weighs 210g, while the (slightly longer) Wusthof weighs 170g. The joints between the black plastic handle and the steel bolster are not as "seamless" on the Mundial as on my Wusthof knives, and there is more asymmetry between the right and left sides of the handle on the Mundial than on my Wusthofs. For the sake of comparison, if I rate my Wusthofs 9.5-10 in quality of finishing, this Mundial would rate about 8.5. The Mundial is still a nice knife... it is better made than Chinese knives made in the German style that I have seen. Considering that the Wusthof 6" Chef's knife is currently $100 at Amazon -- a five-fold difference -- the Mundial deserves 4.5 stars for high quality at a very good price.Get more detail about Mundial 5100 Series 6-Inch Chef's Knife, Black.

Mundial 5100 Series 10-Inch Chef's Knife, Black
Gourmet magazine recommended this fine Brazilian knife. Only $24 for the plastic-handled one and about $42 for the nicer fused wood handle, but they are the same knife. I like the looks and feel of this wood handle--remember not to put it in the dishwasher, as you should treat all fine knives. The upper edge of the blade has quite sharp 90 degree corners, so you may want to do as I did--grind off the sharp corners and polish it more rounded to allow comfortable left hand pressure on the blade while cutting.
You can get them slightly cheaper at other sources, but there you have to pay shipping, so Amazon is the best bargain!
It is sharp and easily sharpenable, good thickness of steel for this sized blade.
A great knife for the price!Get more detail about Mundial 5100 Series 10-Inch Chef's Knife, Black.

Wusthof Classic Ikon 10-Inch Cook's Knife, Black Buy Now
First let me say I'm a Wusthof fan, I love this line of knives. In general I'd say you absolutely can't go wrong with the Classic Ikon. It's balanced well, holds an edge, and has a wonderfully ergonomic handle. However, the 10" Chef's Knife misses the mark. The heel of the blade should be much deeper, or taller if you will. It doesn't seem much taller than the 8" Chef's Knife, which in essence defeats the usability or functionality of the extra length. Don't shy away from the Classic Ikon, it's an incredible knife! But get the 8" Chef's Knife and put the extra few bucks into a paring knife.Get more detail about Wusthof Classic Ikon 10-Inch Cook's Knife, Black.

Save Kuhn Rikon Colori Nonstick Chef's Knife, Black
This we bought for a "salad" chopping knife which we use daily for a variety of kitchen chopping chores.
Its sharp and I hope it stays that way, (other reviews make me wonder) it also is a snap to clean and seems durable. The handle is comfortable.
If it stays this sharp I will consider it a great buy for the price. It will not replace a top quality chef's knife, but its a good option for a budget kitchen or a specific duty.

Low Price Mundial 5100 Series 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black
Noticing that my 35 year old chef's knife was worn and becoming hard to sharpen, my wife bought me a Mundial 5100 8" chef's knife for Christmas.
The grip and balance is perfect, and the workmanship is excellent. I can see no reason to spend more for a pricier brand name. This is a great knife.Get more detail about Mundial 5100 Series 8-Inch Chef's Knife, Black.

Purchase J.A. Henckels Twin Cermax 9-1/2-Inch Chef's Knife, Black
I purchased this knife and the 5-inch petty knife, both about a year-and-a-half ago. I use one or the other daily, depending upon the sizes of the cutting task. Both of these knives are fun to use: light, well-balanced, and extremely sharp. The fit and finish is excellent, as you would expect from Henckels, and the blade is what you would expect from a Japanese knife made in Seki, Japan. Every night, when I am cutting up vegetables or (thawed) meat for dinner, these knives put a smile on my face. They are simply fun to use.
While these knives are not for everything (I keep a heavy German knife for pineapple, squash, frozen meat, etc.), used properly they are excellent at what they do.Get more detail about J.A. Henckels Twin Cermax 9-1/2-Inch Chef's Knife, Black.

KitchenAid 8-Inch Dupont Delrin Handle Chef Knife, Black Top Quality
I gave this knife a couple of swipes across my sharpener before I tried it. It cuts through a ripe tomato with absolute ease. I can make paper thin slices of onion, and makes quick work of carrots... What can I say? I am blown away that a knife at this price point has become my favorite chef knife in my kitchen. Nice weight and balance, and wonderful performance.
